A Nigerian businessman has been jailed for 12 years after he was found guilty of stabbing his wife as she slept in their home. Oluwabusayo Abegunde, 38, (pictured above) stabbed his wife repeatedly with a kitchen knife after he went through her phone and discovered she was seeing someone else.
Esther Abegunde, 33, told her husband of ten years that their marriage was over and moved into a spare room on February 16th 2013. Abegunde attacked her with the knife after he discovered why she wanted to leave him. Oluwabusayo stabbed Esther in the chest, arm, and punctured her left lung, according to the Manchester Evening News. Continue…
Esther survived the brutal attack and later told the police the truth. Abegunde, who has businesses in Nigeria and was a respected member of Manchester’s Nigerian community was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
He was found not guilty of attempted murder at an earlier trial but the jury at Manchester crown court found him guilty of grievous bodily harm this week and he was jailed for 12 years.
The former couple have two sons, aged eight and four.
Lessons learnt:
Please don’t cheat on your spouse
No matter what happens and no matter how angry you are, please think of the repercussion before you act. Anger followed through,is detrimental!
Hmmm, the lesson learnt seems to be ignoring the man’s actions. I don’t think the cheating was the problem. This man clearly has issues. After all he is not the first person to be cheated on. He stabbed this woman in her sleep for some text message he saw when he had not even discussed it with her to confirm whether or not it was what it seemed. The woman had already said the marriage was over, we also need to consider her reason for giving up on her marriage. Is it possible that he had been abusing her physically to warrant that decision? This man only accepted to call the ambulance cos she agreed she will lie about what happened, if she did not agree will he have left her for dead? I don’t support cheating but it is possible that this lady cheated (that’s if she did) because she was looking for solace from someone else to escape the troubles of her marriage.
I totally agree with you anon1246… that is a lesson I omitted. thanks
Hmmmmm
This man is also not a saint. I think he is too temperamental. What of those he also offended should they catch him and kill him?
