Sometimes the biggest lessons of faith happen in the smallest moments, like a plate of plantain at the dinner table.
Everyone had eaten, except my husband. When I served his plate, my middle daughter came back and said, “Mummy, I want more.”
I told her: “Ask Daddy.” But she refused. Instead, she scraped her plate, whispering, “I just wish there was more plantain.”
Her father turned to me and said, “If she asks, I’ll give it to her. I really want to give it to her.”
But she didn’t. She was about to go to bed still wishing, until her father called her back. He gave her plantain, and her joy was complete.
This is how we live with God. We desire, we wish, we scrape the plate—but we don’t ask. Sometimes we fear we’re asking too much. Sometimes we think we should just manage.
But God’s heart is generous.
Jesus said, “How much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him?” (Matthew 7:11)
Even when we don’t ask, His mercy pursues us. His love calls us back to the table.
Don’t settle for scraping the bottom of the plate when your Father is offering you a feast. Ask Him. Trust Him. Come to the table.
