Yay it is the month of love!!!! Yep it is Valentine season (!!!) and I guess everyone is excited especially the ladies and those in relationships but the guys…uhm am not so sure. I am not sure what Valentine’s means to them but I know they are definitely not as giddy as we are and when you ask them ‘why?’ you hear stuff like ‘it is so lame’, ‘I don’t need a day to show my girl that I love her, ‘I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day’. Inasmuch as you may be right, just celebrate it for the sake of that lady, yes! She knows you love her and maybe you buy her gifts everyday but Valentine’s Day is different. I can remember hubby asked me just a month to our wedding why girls take Valentine’s Day personal and what if he doesn’t get me anything on Valentine’s Day? I told him (with a smile but was very firm-because I definitely wanted him to understand…LOL) “Honey, I know you get me stuff every now and then and Valentine’s may not be such a big deal to you, heck! it is not such a big deal to me but something must be exchanged that day, it may not be expensive, it may even just be as little as a cupcake, but the thought counts ( I know some guys would hold strongly to this line…hahaha) and I continued by saying “we all know that there is a day to celebrate lovers though I don’t care who chose the date but please that day celebrate me by doing something”

Let us go back to secondary school( high school), I remember the month of February came with a lot of pressure on the guys, I wonder why girls never bought gifts for guys though, all the shops in school would almost be throwing up with red stuff and you will see a lot of gift ideas but then I always preferred whoever was going to get me a gift would have the initiative to go outside the school to get it as I loved the surprise element when I unwrap the gift.
Guys will start saving their snacks money so they can afford gifts and girls would be having little chats about who they think will get them gifts for Valentine’s and some of us would be acting like we don’t care if we get gifts or not because we are not even sure we have an admirer and we begin to think about the girl that has three to four boys admiring her with a bit of envy. Also, we are very expectant from guys that are showing interest and they will be doomed if they don’t buy us anything for Valentine’s as we will tag them ‘stingy’. What baffled me about Valentine’s Day in my secondary school days was this, guys will buy gifts for you only when February 14th falls on a school day but if it doesn’t then they act like they don’t know, so in February, I can remember quickly going to look at the calendar to see if it falls on a week day…
Leaving secondary school, the pressure got even more intense for girls and guys this time around as a university is pretty big and you will be lucky if you get a present as a single girl but those in relationships would be so excited and everyone looked out to see which couple outdid the other on Valentine’s Day.

Well now we are all grown up and some guys are still pressured by Valentine’s, they may be admiring you, even chatting with you before the day but towards that day they would chicken out and not talk to you as often so you don’t expect anything and I believe it is not because they are stingy per se but think since they are not in a relationship with you yet, they just might want to take it slow and feel exchanging a gift on Valentine’s Day might seem like a commitment and they probably are just getting to know you more, not sure what you guys are at the moment and do not want to lead you on( I am hoping that is why some of our admirers run during Valentine’s) but guys please (in my opinion) keep talking to that girl and on Valentine’s say “Happy Valentine’s”, instead of just running of…Ladies, please take it easy and don’t expect anything from a guy that is just getting to know you and if he gets something out of courtesy, it is not the beginning of a relationship until he says so…let us take it slow, shall we?

We may not all have plans for Valentine’s, may not even have a Val but let us just celebrate it somehow, celebrate yourself, celebrate your spouse, celebrate your boyfriend and girlfriend, go to orphanages, help out in an old peoples home, just do something lovely that day….As for me, I am going to celebrate you guys by posting something about love everyday up until February 15th , it may be a story or two daily…. but at the end of the day it will help your relationship be better and make you happier…. so tell your friends because we are gonna be touching every topic that concerns relationship including sex and we will all be needing them…some of us might decide to leave our relationships, some would try make it work, some would put more effort but at the end we will all be grateful we did and this episode will be called VALENTINE SPLASH! So get talking about it, tell your friends, tweet about it and hashtag it #valentinesplash. we want to make people know that this season of love is worth celebrating…let us make it as interactive as possible…

The question for the guys and girls today is ‘what are your thoughts on Valentine’s?’, should it be celebrated? Is it overhyped? Just share what you think about Valentine’s in general and there is an assignment as well, I got the idea from a friend who told me how her husband appreciated this…so in the next thirty days send a text daily telling your love one I love you and give them a different reason why you love them everyday for example I love you because….. and share what happens and if you are single, do this to yourself by writing it down daily, it is a good exercise…Enjoy!
