Everything is red, Inshort I see red everywhere I turn to, If you go to shoprite here in Lagos, you would be sure to see red rose petals on the floor and one of the gift shops has moved out of their shop because the space is not enough to attend to all customers who seem to be under a crunch time.

I think there are different categories people fits in during valentine.

The Lovers– These are the people  that really loves love, cannot do without a day of celebrating it , they are all romantic and mushy and when Valentine comes, it’s just another way to appreciate their  lovers, not necessarily in an expensive way, they actually put more thought into whatever they are giving than the average person.

The haters/ Unbelievers: If you date this one, don’t expect anything o, your first valentine, they would gist you how it is not in their bible, how everyday should be valentine and how it is just simply overrated, they don’t stop with their partners, they attack any love hopeful by killing it for them, they attack friends through their messages on Facebook, blackberry e,t.c, ” you guys are very shallow to pick out a day to celebrate your lover, It should be everyday”. Abeg,if you celebrate your spouse everyday, good for you, leave those of us that like to do it  once a year. loll..

The  ‘love don’t  live here no more’ : These once believe in companionship, first of all they don’t feel you can get love like in the movies and would never take out time to celebrate the partner except maybe birthdays, no too much “I love you” is even said in the relationship, they just assume you know, you would be out of your mind to expect a valentine anything from them, you are on your own.

The ‘Takers’: They just sit down and wait on the gifts to start pouring in and to them  its a trophy , at the end of the day, they compare their previous year to the present year to see how much progress they have made…loll

The Pressured: “What to do?” Your wife has talked about it , you are told to wear red in your office for that day, after the pastor finished preaching, he asked that you treat your spouse to something special that week, friends are asking your plan for the day… You really don’t care about valentine but  the pressure is crazy so you’ve got to do something bro…

The Guilty: I remember three years ago, I went to shoprite to get a gift for MrP and while I was waiting to be attended  to by the very busy sales girl, I noticed a man standing making an order for two hampers but acting like they are not his, not to sound ‘judgy’ but he was married, one of the hampers had all the things you can think of including the latest blackberry then, the other hamper also looked beautiful but no blackberry, he bought everything down to the same card for the two hampers and immediately I knew it was a side chic versus madam deal… Okay maybe I am a bit ‘judgy’, It could just be for his wife and daughter…lol

Its amazing how just one day is celebrated this much and how a lot is put into it, and I hear a lot of people say it is overrated , what do you think? What category do you fall into? As for me, I am  a lover…hehehe and I don’t think it is overrated so Happy Valentine guys and have a great one! Remember to share your story tomorrow on our ‘dayafter’ series, I hopefully would do so too.
